YAS Minister flags off National Interactive Tour

Imphal, September 22 2019: Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) is organising a 14 days long National Interactive Tour (NIT) for 20 sportspersons of Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation, Imphal from September 22 to 5 October 5 as part of the Assam Rifles ongoing outreach programme to foster the spirit of National integration across the entire swathe of the country, said a statement of PRO IGAR (South).

Letpao Haokip, Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports, Irrigation and Flood Control, Manipur flagged off the tour at the headquarters of the Mantripukhri Battalion of Assam Rifles today.

Brig DS Shishodia, Deputy IGAR (South), Col Siddharth Chandra, Officiating Commander 9 Sector Assam Rifles and Col Prikshit Dahiya, Commandant Mantripukhri Battalion, other Assam Rifles officials and parents of the sportspersons participating in the tour were also in attendance.

The participants interacted with Letpao Haokip and Assam Rifles officials and expressed their excitement in participating in the NIT.

Majority of the sportspersons are travelling outside the State for the first time, said AR.

The NIT consists of 20 sportspersons (both boys and girls) of Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation which is located at Games village, Lamphelpat in Imphal.

The Boxing Foundation is one of the premier academies of boxing in India.

The sportspersons part of the NIT belong to far flung and isolated areas 'lacking basic amenities required in day to day life'.

As part of the tour the students will visit various sports institutes and places of cultural and historical significance, shopping malls and famous landmarks in Sonipat, Hissar, Kurukshetra, Agra and New Delhi.

In the National capital, they will meet and interact with the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan as well as the Union Minister of Sports, said AR.

The tour is intended to broaden their horizon and provide the sportspersons an insight into the rich heritage of the country, various developmental and industry initiatives, various career options as well as provide them with a platform to interact with renowned personalities, added AR .
