254 weavers receive looms under Govt scheme at outreach programme in Bishnupur

An out-reach programme on Government Schemes was held today at Hera Hall, Utlou Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district, organised by the District Handlooms & Textiles, Bishnupur, Government of Manipur.
As part of the programme, Handloom Support System (HSS)items were distributed to 254 weavers from three blocks of the district under the National Handloom Development Programme.
The event was graced by MLA of Nambol Assembly Constituency and retired IPS officer Th Basantakumar Singh as chief guest.
Deputy Director (HL), Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Manipur, Th Basanta Singh attended as functional president.
Other dignitaries present included Deputy Director (HC), Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Y Jagyashwori Devi; Asst Director (Design), Weavers Service Centre under the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, Beauty Mill; Project Manager (HL) District Handlooms & Textiles, Bishnupur K Birjit Singh; Managing Director of Apex Handloom Weavers & Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd, Th Singhajit Singh; and SDO Nambol Tongbram Shyamkumar Singh as guests of honour.
During the programme, a total of 254 weavers were provided looms and other accessories, including 81 beneficiaries from Nambol block, 82 from Bishnupur block, and 92 from Moirang block.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA of Nambol AC Th Basantakumar Singh lauded the initiative, stating that such schemes play a crucial role in supporting livelihoods.
He noted that despite the availability of various income-generating opportunities in Manipur, lack of awareness has often prevented people from availing the benefits.
He further noted that while earlier many government schemes failed to reach the deserving beneficiaries due to the role of middlemen, recent efforts by both the State and Central governments have ensured direct delivery of benefits.
Urging collective cooperation, he called upon the weavers to make the best use of the support provided to help strengthen their profession and contribute to the State's economy.
He also encouraged them to explore funding opportunities available under the Ministry of Textiles, assuring his continued support in this regard.
