Foundation Day celebrated

Imphal, August 21 2025: The 68th Foundation Day of Manipur College was celebrated today at the college's multipurpose hall in Imphal.

The function was attended by Dr L Radhakanta, Director, University & Higher Education, Government of Manipur; L Gojendra Singh, president, MCTA; and Prof Aribam Devidas Sharma, Principal, Manipur College as presidium members.

The celebration began with the hoisting of the college flag followed by paying of floral tributes to the founder members of the College.

Speaking on the occasion, L Radhakanta said that the department is taking steps to not delay the promotions for teachers and address the shortage of teachers in Higher Education.

"Currently there are about 1,700 teachers in Higher Education.

We recognise the shortage of teachers in Higher Education and therefore, plans have been made to recruit about 432 teachers by November/December this year", he added.

The Director also shared that discussions have been going on with the Principal Secretary to address the issue of delayed promotions for teachers and provide necessary infrastructure to educational institutions in the State.

Felicitation of founder members and retired Principals of the college and cultural programmes by teachers & students were the highlights of the event.

the 16th Foundation Day of Images of Manipur (IOM) was celebrated today at its office premises in Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai.

As part of the celebration, Images of Manipur presented the Life Time Achievement Award for the year 2024-25 to Hamom Dhani Meitei of Jiribam.

IOM Star Award 2024-25 was given to Asem Binoy Meitei of Langdum Makhai Leikai for Meitei Pung and Nameirakpam Inaoshana Chanu of Bashikhong for Meitei Eshei and Heisnam Mantosh of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai for Photography (Culture).

Additionally, the general body meeting of IOM was also conducted.

The meeting elected new office bearers for the tenure 2025-28 including Yumnam Nolini (president), Nameirakpam Inaoshana Chanu (vice president) and Jinendra Maibam (secretary).

Besides, All Manipur Progressive Students' Association (AMPSA) also celebrated its 3rd Foundation Day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
