DG AR reviews security, pushes skill and eco-tourism projects for IDPs in Manipur tour

Imphal, April 15 2026:
Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of the Assam Rifles, concluded a multi-district visit across Manipur today, focusing on enhancing operational preparedness and spearheading community-centric developmentinitiatives.
Accompanied by the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), the DG's tour spanned Keithelmanbi, Pallel, Kakching, and Churachandpur.
As per a release issued by HQ IGAR(S), the visit aimed to ensure a robust and responsive security grid in the region.
The visit began on April 12 at the Keithelmanbi Garrison, where Lt Gen Lakhera was briefed on local security dynamics and administrative infrastructure.
He engaged with approximately 450 personnel, including the force's sports teams, commending their resilience and awarding commendation cards to seven individuals for exemplary performance.
The day also included interactions with esteemed veterans and senior officials.
On April 13, the Director General visited Pallel Garrison, where he emphasized the necessity for sustained vigilance and effective area domination.
He presented three commendation cards and met with the faculty of the Skill Development and Training Programme and staff of the upcoming Community Radio Station.
Later, he reviewed the Kakching Warriors, awarding six soldiers for distinguished service.
A major highlight was his interaction with 191 attendees, including 168 ex-servicemen and 23 Veer Naris from various districts, where he reaffirmed the priority of veteran welfare, specifically regarding healthcare and pension measures.
April 14 saw the DG at Mantripukhri Garrison, where he lauded 140 personnel for their dedication, awarding six for their performance.
In Churachandpur, he reviewed vocational training at the UNAU Skill Development Centre at Khuga, highlighting these programmes as vital for fostering self-reliance among displaced persons.
He also inaugurated the Water Sports and Tourist Facility at Geljang, an initiative under the 2025-26 Civic Action Programme designed to provide sustainable livelihoods for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through eco-tourism and scuba training.
The tour concluded in Churachandpur with a meaningful interaction with local Ex-servicemen and Veer Naris, commending seven more personnel for superlative performance.
In the evening, the Director General joined the "Dalai Lama Battalion" to celebrate their 107th Raising Day, applauding all ranks and their families for their outstanding service and unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
