Best Farmer Awards distributed

Imphal, October 09 2024: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Imphal West and District Agriculture Officer Imphal West jointly organised a Best Farmer Awards Distribution Ceremony for the year 2023-24 at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex, Imphal.

The ceremony was graced by RK Dinesh Singh, Commissioner (Agriculture), Government of Manipur; Th Kirankumar, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West District and N Gojendro, Director of Agriculture, Manipur as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Th Kirankumar elaborated on the importance of conducting soil testing of agricultural lands in the State to determine which crops to grow, how much fertilizer to use, and how to manage the soil.

He also stressed on the need for the farmers to consult agriculture scientists/experts and adopt the latest scientific method of agriculture to increase their crop yield.

Claiming that the Agriculture Department is seriously understaffed, N Gojendro said, "There are about 600 employees currently in the Department including the 200 staff of ATMA".

He asserted that the Department is facing a lot of difficulties to carry out its operations effectively due to the lack of manpower.

During the event, the Best Farmers Award was presented to 12 farmers for the year 2023-24.The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation.
