RIMS organises cleanliness drive, Optical Biometer inaugurated

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal in collaboration with 85 Bn CRPF, Lamphelpat, organised a cleanliness drive under Swachhta Action Plan 2024-25 on Saturday.
According to a release issued by RIMS, the cleanliness drive was carried out from the northeastern side boundary wall (near BSNL office) upto Paediatric Emergency Gate No 3 side and from the Main Gate upto the Jubilee Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; and Prof Y Govindaraj Singh along with other doctors, staff of RIMS, CRED and MSS actively participated in the drive.
Meanwhile, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma inaugurated an Optical Biometer (IOL MASTER 700) at the Department of Ophthalmology, RIMS, Imphal on Friday.
The inaugural function was graced by Prof N Sanjib Singh; Prof Y Chingsuingamba Meitei, Head, Department of Ophthalmology, RIMS, Imphal and RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS, Imphal among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar stated that RIMS is the first to install an Optical Biometer machine at a Government setup in the entire North East.
He asserted that the machine will be used for accurate measurement of intraocular lenses to be planted in cases of cataract.
"It is the most advanced and accurate optical biometry in the world today.
The machine will give fast procedure and measurement of both eyes can be done in 45 seconds providing lots of time to examine more patients.
More importantly, the accurate measurement provided by the machine will immensely help in cataract surgery", he added.
Further, the Director shared that RIMS is giving one of the most cost effective treatments in the whole State and total free treatment for cataract surgery will also be initiated in the future after receiving permit from the Government of India.
