MHRC continues police reforms campaign

Imphal, February 28 2025:
In continuation of their police reforms campaign, Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) organised an awareness programme at SP Conference Hall, Bishnupur under the theme "Need of police reforms to ensure human rights" today.
The awareness campaign witnessed the attendance of Ksh Ravikumar (IPS), SP Bishnupur and other senior officers including Officers-in-Charge and Investigation Officers.
Other notable dignitaries include MHRC Member Kangjam Khagendra Singh and Head of Investigation Division IGP Mamata Wahengbam, IPS who attended the awareness programme as functional president and facilitator.
At the event, Rosita Haobam (IAS), Secretary, MHRC highlighted the importance of the programme and said that the campaign aims to make police officers, particularly Officers-in-Charge and Investigation Officers, aware of various guidelines and Special Operating Procedures issued by the National Human Rights Commission to ensure their compliance.
The awareness programme also deliberated on the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, which serves as the legal foundation of the human rights commission in India.
Discussions also covered the Paris Principles, an international set of guidelines which ensure independent functioning of human rights institutions and NHRC guidelines on police-public relationship and deaths in police action etc.
On the occasion, MHRC distributed a book titled "A Basic Handbook for Human Rights Advocates and Investigation Officers" .
