Imphal, December 20 2010:
The principal and officials of the district education authority has failed to report the neglect of repairing or re-construction of a government model school in Ukhrul district HQ even after a year has passed since the dismantling of the school.
The model school at Ukhrul town was dismantled on November 20, 2009 by miscreants taking advantage of a series of ransacking and burning of government schools in Naga dominated hill districts of Manipur in the campaign to allow affiliation of schools in the areas to Nagaland Board of Secondary Education.
Recalling November 20, 2009 incident, town residents said that on that very day vandals destroyed the doors, windows and verandahs of the school.
Again between November 22 and 26, vandals dismantled the the staff quarters.
The quarters were dismantled by a JCB and the police did
not intervene.
The principal had also not lodged a complaint with the police.
In the circumstances, residents suspect persons with vested interests colluded with the zonal education office to abolish the school.
Principal of the Christian Higher Secondary School, Sara Kasung, Sophen Roleng, Th Thanmi, Wungreiwon Simray, secretary of Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association (Women), Deacon Amishan Shaiza, executive member of Women Society Awin Jingkhai, etc.
were the suspects behind the dismantling of the school, sources disclosed.
Their act of dismantling the school was not a part of often organised campaign for affiliation of schools under NBSE but they had done it with the intention of taking over the school and to convert it into a private school, the sources alleged.
No case was registered with the police.
The DC, SP, OC of Ukhrul PS took no action.
Though there are enough students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school are unwilling to work in the school for lack of lodgings.
The prevailing situation has greatly disturbed the academic atmosphere of the students, the sources disclosed.
