The All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) observed its 5th foundation anniversary at the premises of the Temple of Learning, Canchipur, Imphal.
The anniversary observation was celebrated as the 'Rising Day against Drugs and Intoxicants'.
A health mega quiz contest was also launched as part of the celebration.
In a speech, chief guest, Education Minister, L Jayentakumar said that human resource development is the major key to all development.
For a developed society, we should mould the youth who are the pillars of the future.
He said, the Social Welfare Department has taken up many initiatives for the welfare of children.
The Union government also provides free education and uniforms to all children below 14 years under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
Another scheme Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan also provides free education to students above 14 years.
The step of AMADA against drugs and intoxicants is laudable.
It will definitely help the society to usher in peace and development.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA I Hemochandra said that all individuals should abstain from drugs and intoxicants.
It is the first important step to create a drug free society.
Convener of the observation committee, Ph Phony said that drugs and intoxicants entered Manipur in the last part of the 20th century.
It spread like a wildfire taking many lives.
To tackle the situation, AMADA was formed on December 20, 2005 to root out drugs and intoxicants from the state.
In the past few years AMADA successfully initiated many steps against drugs and intoxicants.
He appealed to the people of the state to extend their valuable cooperation in the fight against drugs and intoxicants so as to save the society from utter misery.
The selection test for the health mega quiz contest was done today.
A total of 202 students participated in the selection test.
Altogether 36 teams were selected comprising of two participants in each team.
The quiz will be held on every Sunday.
The first round will be held on January 9, 2011 at the premises of the AMADA head office.
The quiz contest will be telecast on ISTV every Saturday and Sunday.

the function.
Principal of Temple of Learning, Ch Jotin attended as guest of honour.
Chief Guest of the function, L Jayentakumar released balloons to mark the launching of the function.
Bishwajit Chongtham and Md Khurshid Alam of TOL, who both stood first in the selection test for the mega quiz contest, were given a special prize by the chief guest.
