Continuing pharmacy education programme held

Manipur State Pharmacy Council organised a 1-Day Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) programme at the conference hall of State Central Library in Keishampat.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Chambo Gonmei, Director, Health Sendees Manipur; RK Basumani Singh, President, Manipur State Pharmacy Council; S Baleshwor, State Drug Controller cum Licensing Authority, Medical Directorate and S Brajakeshor Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chambo Gonmei appealed to all the pharmacists to attend the Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme organised from time-to-time to improve their skill and knowledge.
Expressing concern over some people opening pharmacies without proper training or licence, he said, "Checking whether a pharmacy is genuine or fake is crucial because buying counterfeit medications from a non-legitimate pharmacy can pose serious health risks, including ineffective treatment, harmful side effects, and potential allergic reactions due to unknown ingredients in the fake drugs".
The Director also called for the creation of a full time post of Drug Controller in the Medical Department to monitor and verify the authenticity of a pharmacy and ensure the public receive safe & effective medication.
Dr Chambo Gonmei also urged doctors to prescribe generic medicines to help lower healthcare costs and make treatments affordable to patients.
Dr Swarnalata Nepram, Senior Guest Lecturer, Government Polytechnic, Takyel; Dr P Shyamsundar Singh, former Director, Family Welfare Services Manipur; Johnson Luwang, Research Director, Bir Tikendrajit University, Canchipur and Kh Deepak -Singh, Associate Professor, Escent Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research also attended the event as resource persons.
