MU organises one-day seminar on Sage Agastya and his contributions

A one-day seminar on "Sage Agastya and his Contributions" was held today at the Court Hall of Manipur University as a part of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0.The seminar was jointly organised by the College Development Council, Manipur University (MU), Tamil Sangam, Moreh Manipur and the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, Manipur University, as per a release issued by Dr Sakila Nongmeikapam, Public Relations Officer, Manipur University.
The main objective of the seminar was to explore the contributions of Sage Agastya and his relevance in today's modern society.
N Ashok Kumar, IAS, Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
In his speech, N Ashok Kumar highlighted the multifaceted personality of Sage Agastya and his contributions in integrating ancient India through his knowledge of classical Indian languages.
While applauding Manipur University in recognizing the contributions of Sage Agastya, he stated that the seminar theme created a momentum aligning with the Government of India's initiative to observe Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 in Government universities and institutions, celebrating the diversity of India.
The Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur also urged the students to understand ancient Indian history, as history plays a crucial role in analysing the past and bringing new perspectives to the present.
The event was presided over by Professor Naorem Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University.
Giving his presidential address before the gathering today, Professor Lokendra Singh highlighted the contributions of Sage Agastya in Sangam literature, ayurveda, health system and other aspects of human life and natural sciences.
Stressing on the importance of Kashi Tamil Sangamam, the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University pointed out that the Prime Minister was instrumental in celebration of classical literature, ancient cultural and historical transmission of ideas, knowledge, thinking and civilizations across the Indian sub-continent, promoting and preserving the socio-historical evolution of ancient Indian literature.
Meanwhile, Kabib K, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), Government of Manipur, stated that Sage Agastya was a guru who made significant contributions in the field of literature, medicine, ayurveda, yoga and music.
The Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), Government of Manipur said that Sage Agastya asserted the idea of unity in diversity, stressing on the similarities of characters in Tamil and Manipuri mythological stories.
Tamil Sangam, Moreh honoured the esteemed dignitaries with a token of appreciation.
