Gun violence: Protestors demand State assistance for grievously injured IDP

Demanding a clarification for the life attempt on a displaced person by unknown miscreants on May 8, local clubs of Thanga staged a sit-in protest at Thanga Khoirom Mandop today urging the State Government to provide assistance to Sawaijam Dhanabir, the victim injured in the attack.
Notably, Sawaijam Dhanabir, s/o S Rajen Meitei from Thingkangphai Yaiphakol in Churachandpur is an inmate at Kamakhya Pemton College Hiyangthang Relief Camp.
On the morning of May 8, he had gone to visit a relative at SC Girls Hostel Relief Camp, Thanga when unknown miscreants shot him, leaving him with serious injuries.
Today's protest was staged by All Thanga Peoples' Organisation, Thanga Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and SC Girls' Hostel Thanga Wangma High School Relief Camp with the participation of locals from Thanga as well as inmates of the relief camp.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, a relative of the victim, Samom Jamuna, shared that since the eruption of violence on May 3, the family had fled Churachandpur and moved from one relief camp to another seeking shelter.
She also made an appeal to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to launch an investigation to book the culprits responsible for the gun attack and extend assistance to the victim who is currently undergoing treatment.
Today's protest was dotted with placards with messages such as "Stop attacking innocent civilians", "Punish the perpetrators swiftly", "We want justice, we condemn terrorist activity", "Stop inflicting more suffering in the middle of a war", "Manipur Government help Sawaijam Dhanabir", "We condemn life attempt on ordinary citizen" and "We want justice" .
