RIMS director receives bomb threat; protest staged

Imphal, April 10 2025: Unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of RIMS director Guruaribam Sunilkumar at Brahmapur Guruaribam Leikai under Porompat police station.

According to a police report, the grenade was found lying on the first floor of his house around 8 am Thursday.

It is believed that the unidentified persons hurled the grenade from near the gate of the residence on Wednesday night as the lever of the grenade was found near the gate.

On receiving news, a police team arrived at the scene and safely removed the grenade.

A case was also registered and an investigation launched.

Meanwhile, Old Thumbuthong Apunba Meira Paibi organised a sit-in protest at Guruaribam Leikai on Thursday condemning the grenade threat at Dr Sunilkumar's residence.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Meira Paibi activist Guruaribam Ghanapriya condemned the threat, noting that it is not the first time the director's residence had been targeted.

At the same time, the local urged against such acts in residential areas and to sort out any issues peacefully, while appealing for the same through the media.

"It is extremely unfortunate that the threat was executed when there were only young women and children in the house at the time," she lamented.

Demanding the persons responsible to clarify the reason for the act, she said that there can be no peace and tranquillity in the state as long as bomb and gun culture exists in the state, while urging against repeating such acts in the future.
