PKMNL raises concern over dilapidated condition of Paocham High School

Although being one of the oldest school in the northern part of Ukhrul district, Paocham High School, which was established in the year 1959 still remains in shoddy conditions with poor infrastructure risking the students of shattering anytime.
The school has 5 teaching staff and a headmistress in spite of the 15 sanctioned posts for Paocham High School.
The sanctioned posts at the school have witnessed a decrease in numbers over the past years.
In 2012, the sanctioned teaching faculty posts were 28, in 2015, they were reduced to 19, and presently, the sanctioned posts for teachers are only 15 .
Out of the 15 sanctioned posts, only 6 teachers are working at the moment, including the Headmistress-in-charge.
Although being the only Government high school for three villages - Phungcham, Paorei and Varanglai.
the school lacks all basic infrastructures and is in a dilapidated condition and has become unfit for conducting normal classes, said Juneme Longleng, president of Phungcham Katamnao Mayar Ngala Long (PKMNL) .
"The school imparting education to children from 1,086 households, covering a total population of 5,019, is being run without a science and english teacher," said Juneme Longleng.
He continued that despite repeated approaches to the authorities to depute a science teacher and an english teacher, the authorities turn deaf ear.
The President further expressed strong dismay against the purported negligence despite the villagers repeated plea for posting sufficient teachers to resolve the shortage of teachers.
It may be mentioned that, Phungcham village consists of 473 households with a population of 2110, Paorei village consists of 522 households with 2581 population while Varangalai consists of 91 households with 328 population.
