In an effort to support sustainable livelihood among local residents, Prem Dhara Trust on Thursday distributed 26 ducklings to beneficiaries at its office located at Heirok Part II.
Prem Dhara Trust in a release said that the ducklings were provided under a sponsored programme supported by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Lamphel, with the objective of encouraging duck farming as a viable income-generating activity for the local community.
Speaking on the occasion, trustee Thokchom Ibohal Singh informed the gathering that ICAR Lamphel has assured continued technical support and guidance for future activities related to duck farming.
During the programme, Khundrakpam Chittaranjan Singh, who had earlier received training from ICAR, shared his knowledge on duck rearing with the beneficiaries.
He explained that rearing with duck farming can be managed successfully if proper care and monitoring are maintained.
He also stressed the importance of regular health check-ups and timely treatment in case of illness.
At the conclusion of the programme, members of the trust expressed hope that the beneficiaries would work collectively and make the best use of the piglets provided, enabling them to develop pig farming as a sustainable source of livelihood.
