MoU inked to foster joint research, dissemination of traditional knowledge system

Imphal, August 08 2025:
A significant cultural collaboration was initiated today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Regional Centre, Guwahati and the Manipur University of Culture (MUC) at the Registrar Office/Auditorium of MUC, Imphal.
The partnership aims to promote joint research, documentation, and dissemination of traditional knowledge systems, indigenous cultural practices, and performing arts of the region.
The MoU was officially signed by Laishram Radhakanta Singh, i/c Registrar, MUC and Dr Sapam Ranabir Singh, Regional Director, IGNCA, Regional Centre Guwahati in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Prof Paonam Gunindro Singh, Vice Chancellor, MUC; K Dinamani Singh, Director, Art & Culture, Government of Manipur and other faculty members of the varsity.
Following the MoU signing ceremony, a Panel Discussion on the theme, "Value Crisis in Umanglai Haraoba: Revisiting Rituals, Symbolism and Structural Traditions in Contemporary Contexts" was held at the auditorium of MUC, jointly organised by IGNCA, Regional Centre Guwahati and the Department of Umanglai Haraoba, MUC.
The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, setting an auspicious tone for the day's deliberations.
Eminent panelists shared their insights on the contemporary challenges feeing the ritualistic and symbolic traditions of Umanglai Haraoba, an indigenous ritualistic festival rooted in Meitei cosmology and culture.
The panel discussion was enriched by the scholarly contributions of K Ranjit Adhikarimayum, former Principal, Government Dance College, Manipur; Dr Nganbi Chanu, Assistant Professor & HOD, Department of Umanglai Haraoba, MUC; Mutum Maniton, Social & Cultural Activist, Manipur; and Dr Thounaojam Ruhichand Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Umanglai Haraoba, MUC.
Special guests Soibam Kulabidhu Singh and Chingkheimayum Brojen Meetei were also felicitated during the event for their continued commitment to community and cultural education.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by a representative of MUC, marking the beginning of a meaningful and long-lasting partnership between IGNCA and MUC for cultural preservation and scholarly exchange.
