Imphal, February 08 2026:
An awareness programme on "Protection of Forest Area from Sambei Makha Ching Ani Karak to Sambei Awang Tinbirok Chingjin" was organised today at Sambei Community Hall in Imphal East district.
During the programme, it was reiterated that felling of trees, starting forest fires, earth excavation and other illegal activities are strictly prohibited in the aforementioned region.
The awareness programme was organised by Sambei Village Authority.
It was attended by Angom Ningthou Poireiton; Thokchom Ibungohal, custom secretary, Uttra Sanglen; Khwai Pana Sanglakpa Thongam Chahiyamba; Sambei Village Authority president Moirangthem Subol and Sambei villagers.
At the event, Moirangthem Subol said that it is a well-known and accepted fact that human beings depend on production of food in order to survive.
However, instead of promoting and safeguarding the gifts of nature which provide humans with the means to live, people actively destroy lakes, forests etc in the name of development.
It is imperative for us to protect the forests and mountains which help to control the climate and bring rains, he maintained.
In Manipur, the lakes and wetlands are in a deplorable state.
One of the major reasons for this is deforestation, he added.
Thus, he urged the gathering to pour their efforts into conserving forests saying that there is an unbreakable bond between the forests, animals and human beings.
Without forests, there will be no rivers or lakes and under those circumstances it would be impossible for living beings to survive, he cautioned.
