HC directs MLA to cooperate

While hearing an election petition, the High Court of Manipur has directed MLA Karam Shyam to cooperate "for concluding examination of witnesses" within eight weeks.
The election petition was filed by Okram Joy Singh against MLA Karam Shyam challenging the latter's election in the last State Assembly polls.
The petition accused Karam Shyam of concealing a pending criminal case against him.
There is a criminal case pending against Karam Shyam Singh however while submitting the nomination paper along with Form 26 affidavit, he concealed the pending criminal case by declaring "not applicable", said the petition.
It accused Karam Shyam of not disclosing correct information regarding his assets.
It further claimed that Karam Shyam has given wrong information with regard to his highest education qualification in the affidavit.
Karam Shyam has falsely declared that he has a Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, alleged the petition.
In the course of the hearing, after Karam Shyam failed to produce witnesses in spite of several opportunities given to him, Okram Joy Singh filed an application praying for closure of examination of witnesses on behalf of Karam Shyam.
Hearing the application on April 3, the High Court directed that Karam Shyam "shall cooperate for concluding the examination of witnesses" within eight weeks.
