DESAM submits memorandum to Governor

Imphal, April 04 2025:
A three-member team of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla seeking his intervention in the domain of teacher education, higher education and school education.
According to a press release issued by DESAM, some of the points listed in the memorandum include
i) converting the Government PGTC (DMCTE) and Hindi Training College into Institution of Advanced Study in Education while preserving the identity,
ii) initiate tangible action to introduce 4-Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP),
iii) introduction of "Honours With Research" option in the last year of the 4-year BA/BSc courses in Government colleges,
iv) rationalization of subjects and creation of new departments,
v) recruitment of necessary BEd, MEd, Hindi BEd and DIET teachers,
vi) appointment of DMCTE Principal who fulfils all the norms under National Council for Teacher Education and
vii) ensure that the NEP 2020 State task Force carry out their duties with commitment among others.
With regards to the recruitment of 1140 pre-primary teachers by the Education (S) Department, the memorandum also mentioned the establishment of the necessary training centres.
