Imphal, April 01 2025:
The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) has issued an appeal to clarify the position of the Liangmai people over the Maremei village dispute.
Reaffirming Maremai village as ancient Liangmai settlement, the LNC-M in a release has stated that the repeated acts of aggression by individuals falsely claiming ownership of Maremei village, is a blatant act that have been supported and backed by NSCN (IM) under the supervision of the Maram-Thangal Region.
Denouncing the heinous acts of NSCN (IM), including physical torture and sexual harassment of women in Maremei village, the LNC-M emphasizes that all disputes, whether large or small, occuring in tribal or Naga villages have traditionally been resolved amicably through customary practices.
Terming the GPRN verdict that favoured RK Remping and Maram-Thangal Region as biased, the LNC-M urges all neighbouring communities to respect Liangmai traditional and customary practices to foster peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups in Senapati town.
It further appealed to all Non-Liangmai neighbouring communities to refrain from engaging in any land transactions with RK Kemping until an amicable settlement is reached in Maremei village in accordance with Liangmai customary law.
