Youths urged to follow footsteps of Lamyanba

Imphal, September 30 2025: Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has urged youths and younger generations, especially students to trace the footprints of Jana Neta Hijam Irawat and instill in their hearts a feeling of patriotism.

"Jana Neta Irawat was a patriot.

We must remember and honour him by converting his thoughts into action," Leishemba said.

The MP said this during the 2nd KIMACS State Level Inter School Manipuri dance Competition (on patriotic songs) held at the Maharaja Bodhchandra College, Palace Compound.

The dance competition was organised by the Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) to mark the 129th birth anniversary of Jana Neta Hijam Irawat.

Speaking to the gathering, Leishemba said students are the pillars of the Nation and they must inculcate a sense of patriotism.

Students must not confine themselves to learning from the books alone.

They must explore and take active parts in extracurricular activities including sports, dance, music etc, Leishemba said.

He lauded KIMACS for organising the competition.

Such competitions will help instill a feeling of patriotism among young students, he added.

KIMACS president Ningthoujam Ajitkumar Mangang, Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha and many other eminent personalities attended the programme.

38 students of 22 schools participated in the dance competition, held in two categories - solo and group.

In the solo competition, Lamnganbi Laishram of Brighter Academy Khumbong secured the first place.

Wahengbam Bhabani of COMET School and Kemi Kangujam of Guru Nanak Public School secured the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Ningombam Anjolina Chanu of Emmanuel English Academy and Sanya Ayekpam of Nirmalabas High School won Best Jury Award.

In the group competition, Pitambara English School group led by G Tampha secured the 1st place.

The group of Elite Foundation Academy led by L Genelia secured the 2nd place.

Emmanuel English Academy group led by Meitei Chanu secured the 3rd place.

Elite Foundation Academy group led by Waikhom Nongpoknganba and Memorial Model Academy group led by Romika bagged the Best Jury Award.
