Imphal, April 08 2019:
Outer Manipur Parliamentary candidate of NCP, Angam Karung Kom has reiterated that he will fight for unity and integrity of the State at his level best as MP if elected.
He was speaking to media persons at his house in KR Lane during flag hoisting ceremony.
The State is behind others in almost every field, he said asserting that he will work towards bridging the gaps and solve all major issues plaguing the growth of the State.
Angam Karung Kom was born in Mahou Tera in Chandel district and became a bureaucrat (MCS officer) before joining active politics.
He said that his priority is solving border issues and maintaining State's integrity.
He will voice the people's plight and apprehension about the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Parliament if he is elected, said Angam.
He had worked as a civil servant in Thoubal and Kakching districts, said Angam stating that he understands the plight of the people of the region and the State as a whole.
He called for support and urged the people of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency to cast their votes to clock symbol of NCP in the Lok Sabha election on April 11 .
NCP State president S Iboyaima, vice president MH Yaiphaba and other leaders of the party attended the flag hoisting ceremony of the candidate.
It may be mentioned that the people of the State and all political parties other than BJP are concerned with Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Despite the claims of the State BJP that the Citizenship Amendment Bill will not undermine the interest of the indigenous people of the State and that Manipur will be kept out of the purview of the Bill, there is no mention of any provision to keep Manipur or North-East States out of the purview of the CAB in the manifesto BJP has released today.
In its manifesto, BJP has promised to bring the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill again if the party retains power in the Centre.
In the manifesto, BJP said: "We are committed to the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Bill for the protection of individuals of religious minority communities from neighbouring countries escaping persecution.
We will make all efforts to clarify the issues to the sections of population from the Northeastern States who have expressed apprehensions regarding the legislation.
We reiterate our commitment to protect the linguistic, cultural and social identity of the people of Northeast.
Hindus, Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs escaping persecution from India's neighbouring countries will be given citizenship in India" .
