Imphal, May 02 2015 :
The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has urged the authority concerned to stop distribution/sale of petrol through token system except for a few emergency/essential services.
Speaking to reporters at their head office, AMSU secretary general Manjit Sarangthem said that it is unfortunate that the Government has been maintaining a stoic silence on the issue petrol scarcity.
He said that according to a report received from IOC, 163700 litres of petrol have been released from April 20 to May 1.As such, it is questionable where this huge quantity of petrol has gone if it has actually been released to different petrol pumps, Manjit said.
He said that there is strong suspicion that petrol pumps are giving away petrol through token system to some individuals belonging to Government Departments, who in turn sell it to black marketers.
On the otherhand, there are also reports of Home Department employees forcefully taking petrol from different oil pumps without tokens, he added.
The matter needs serious attention of CAF & PD Minister to make available of petrol to the general public, Manjit said.
He said that AMSU would not remain silent if school transporters suspend service due to petrol scarcity.
Manjit also demanded that all forms of token system be stopped except for a few emergency and essential services.
He also urged the Government to resolve the petrol scarcity crisis by May 4 .
