Justice should be even-handed : MLA Rameshwor

Imphal, July 21 2023: Keirao Kendra MLA Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei has said that the Manipur Government shouldn't be partial when delivering justice to the victims of the ongoing violence in Manipur.

The MLA, who is also Chairman of Planning and Development Authority, elaborated that everyone who were involved in torturing two Kuki women by stripping them should be booked and likewise Kuki militants who burnt alive an elderly woman of 80+ years at Serou should be punished.

Protests against the disrobing of two women and shaming them in public were held at different places of Keirao Kendra under the initiative of Peace and Integrity Committee Kyamgei.

Thanga MLA T Robindro also condemned the May 4 incident while speaking to the media in Imphal.

Addressing the media at one of the protest sites, Rameshwor Meetei said that the crime committed against the two women was inhumane and mobsters involved must be punished.

He said that he condemns all forms of crime against women and children.

Reminding that an elderly Meetei woman Sorokhaibam Ibetombi was also burnt alive by Kuki militants while many other Meetei women in Churachandpur were also sexually assaulted, the MLA appealed to the Government to arrest these militants and punish them too.

Meeteis will always admit when they have done wrong and the same can been seen in the case of Lucy Maring, the MLA said and added that it was the Meeteis who burnt the houses of the people involved in the killing of Lucy Maring and a person involved in parading two Kuki women naked.

Saying that the Government should be impartial while delivering justice to the victims, the MLA urged the Government to book all Kuki militants who murdered, tortured men, women, children alike in the cruellest manner.

The people of Keirao will not stop this movement until all narco-terrorists and illegal immigrants are removed from Manipur, Rameshwor added.

It is truly unfortunate that even the MLAs couldn't unite even at this darkest hour, he said and added that at least the 40 MLAs of the valley need to keep all political differences aside and work together.

The people are unable to unite because the representatives they send are not uniting, he reasoned and expressed desire for all MLAs to work collectively to protect Manipur.
