Womenfolk of Thoubal, Bishnupur stage protest over arrest of village volunteers

Tbl/Bpr, February 21 2025: Meira Paibis of Thoubal and Bishnupur district staged a protest demonstration today over the arrest of village volunteers by security forces in Kakching. THOUBAL

At Thoubal, a sit-in protest was staged at Wangjing Keithel organised by the Ima Meira Paibi Lup of Salungpham, Kairembikhok, Heirok, Wanjing and Tentha.

The protesters also burned tyres and blocked roads to express their outrage against the security forces' action.

Speaking at the sidelines of the protest, Meira Paibi leader, Nganbiton Leima and Maibam Thaba stated that the present crisis in the State is due to Central and State Govt failure to timely intervene.

The recent imposition of the President's Rule in the State is an invitation for another Nupi Lan, they stated.

"If such action of the security forces continues, there may be another Nupi Lan in Manipur", stated Nganbiton and Thaba.

The protesters also called for cessation of security forces operation to arrest village volunteers.

Similar protests were also held at Yairipok Keithel and various places of Thoubal to Yairipok road over the arrest of village volunteers by security forces.

Many protesters from the Yairipok Keithel area came out in large numbers and gathered at Yairipok Bazar Traffic Point and shouted slogans like, "Don't arrest village volunteers", "Form Government immediately", "Withdraw President's Rule from Manipur" during the protest.

At Moirangpali, Meira Paibis took to the street and blocked the roads by placing a large number of stones on the road. BISHNUPUR

At Bishnupur, Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) and Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL) Moirang staged a sit-in protest at Moirang keithel by blocking the road over the arrest of village volunteers by security forces in Kakching.

Speaking at the protest, K Padamati, president of MAMPIL called for the formation of the Government soon and immediate removal of the President's Rule from the State.

She stated that the action of the security forces to arrest the village volunteers who have been safeguarding the frontline since the beginning of the conflict in the State is unacceptable and condemned at the strongest term.

During the protest many held placards which read "We condemned imposition of the President's Rule in Manipur", "Form the Government immediately", "Release village volunteers without any condition", etc.

Similar protests were also held at Nambol keithel, Oinam keithel, Bishnupur keithel, Ningthoukhong keithel, and Tronglaobi over the arrest of village volunteers by security forces.
