Imphal, April 10 2025:
United Zou Organisation (UZO) General Headquarters has issued an appeal for immediate ceasefire and restoration of peace and normalcy in Upper Chin state, Zogam, Myanmar, following recent violent clashes among ethnically allied armed groups.
In a statement issued Thursday, UZO urged Zomi Revolutionary Army, Chinland Defence Force-Tonzang and Chin National Front/Army to "immediately cease all violence and hostilities".
UZO expressed deep concern over what it termed as tit-for-tat territorial expansions and infighting, which have caused immense trauma, property loss and displacement among the Zo people, all descendants of 'Pu Zo'.
Referring to the situation as a "mere family misunderstanding", UZO lamented that the recent clashes have played into the hands of "inimical forces" who rejoice at the community's internal strife.
The appeal highlighted how the ongoing conflict further aggravated the already grim situation in Myanmar due to the 2021 coup, the continuing violence against Zo people in Manipur since May 2023, and recent natural disasters such as the earthquake in Myanmar.
UZO urged all stakeholders, including military and civil leaders, CSOs, politicians, pastors, and the Zo/Zomi diaspora, to refrain from inciting hatred or exploiting the situation for divisive gains, particularly through social media, while also condemning the torching and burning of homes and properties, stating such actions violate social justice and war decorum.
Stressing that ZRA (EC), CDF-Tonzang, and CNF/A are "soldiers from our very own blood brothers" fighting for the common cause of Zo unity and brotherhood, UZO appealed for an immediate halt to violence and offered to mediate on any dialogue or peace negotiation.
The organisation also called for prayers and collective efforts to restore the glory of Zogam and reconcile all misgivings.
