Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor W Chandbabu said the DMU at present is facing many challenges, and all efforts will be put in to improve the University.
The Vice Chancellor, who assumed charge recently on April 2, said the University is lacking various infrastructure, which need to be addressed on a priority basis.
The immediate action would be taking up measures to increase security inside the campus and make it free of disturbances, he said.
The campus should be properly fenced to enhance security and build a proper academic atmosphere.
A peaceful and disturbance free environment will enable teachers and students to focus on their academic activities, he added.
The VC also underscored the importance of implementing the National Education Policy 2020 to improve the University and raise its ranking.
The University should strive to make the students responsible citizens, he said.
Chandbabu said he will consider feedback given to him by the former VCs in implementing programmes that aim at improving the University.
Filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma said before it became a University, the former DM Colleges of Arts, Commerce and Science had produced many successful persons and shaped the careers of many eminent personalities.
Improving and elevating the University to a higher status requires the concerted efforts of all the stakeholders including the teachers and the students, he said.
The University authorities, teachers and students must work with dedication to improve the institution, he added.
Notably, the Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) was set up after clustering together DM College of Science, DM College of Arts, DM College of Commerce, GP Women's College and LMS Law College.
A Bill pertaining to establishment of DMU was passed by the State Assembly on August 3, 2017 following which the Dhanamanjuri University Act 2017 was enacted.
DMU opened its first academic session in 2018-19 .
Marred by lack of infrastructure and manpower, the University is yet to get recognition under 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.This has significantly hindered the University's academic progress.
