International Day of Older Persons observed in Thoubal

Thoubal, October 01 2025:
Joining the global observance, the International Day of Older Persons was marked today at the office of the Health Care Centre, Pakhangkhong Leirak, Thoubal, organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal, in collaboration with the Health Care Centre, Thoubal.
The programme was attended by NYK Programme Manager Loken; Health Care Centre Director N Biren, and village elder, W Manao Singh, as presidium members.
As part of the observance, 18 elders from the locality above the age of 68 years were felicitated by the Project Director of the Health Care Centre with gifts and prayers for their good health and longevity.
Meanwhile, the day was also observed at Wangbal, organised by the Integrated Rural Development And Educational Organisation (IRDEO) .
The programme, held at the IRDEO Wangbal campus, was attended by Khangabok Assembly Constituency MLA Okram Surjakumar as chief guest; Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Manipur, president Dr Maibam Rajendra Singh as functional president; and Uyal-Wangbal Gram Panchayat, former pradhan H Rakho Singh; Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Manipur, secretary Mutum Nabachandra Singh; Senior Surgeon MS Dr Kh Shantikumar Singh as guests of honour.
During the programme, PRTC (Ag.) O Ishwaree Devi delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of recognising senior citizens' contributions and the need to address the challenges faced by the elderly.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Ksh Manglem as resource person, also spoke on the importance of elder healthcare and the necessity of collective action to ensure dignity and support for senior citizens.
As part of the event, four selected elders were honoured with gifts, followed by a free health-camp that included medical check-ups and treatment services.
An Udyog Mela, showcasing products made of plastic and kouna by senior citizens, was also organised, along with a painting competition for students.
