Bishnupur, July 14 2024:
Demanding resettlement in their original homes and a return to their normal lives, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Takmu Water Sports Complex Relief Camp, Laisoi staged a sit-in protest today at the camp premises.
Speaking to media persons, Heikrujam Bina (an IDP) questioned if the Government did not have intelligence about the pending violence on May 3 .
She also maintained that if the authorities had deployed adequate security forces at Torbung Bangla when violence first erupted and reined in the violence at the outset then the crisis could have been prevented.
She stated that Manipur now exists in a limbo where the State Government is neither able to resolve the conflict nor capable of sending the displaced folks back to their villages.
Additionally, she asserted that if the administration is incapable of bringing an amicable solution and sending them home safely then the IDPs will return home on their own.
She also highlighted the plight of the conflict survivors at the relief camp who have faced innumerable hardships during the conflict which has raged on for 14-months now.
Notably, Heikrujam Bina shared that just a few days ago an inmate who was like a son to her attempted suicide out of despair.
Though he was saved by alert inmates in the vicinity, who can predict if the same will not happen to some other anguished person, she asked.
Protestors at the demonstration held placards with messages such as "We want justice", "Send us home or we will go back ourselves" among others.
