MCM observes 32nd foundation day, calls for Meitei-Kuki dialogue

The Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) observed its 32nd foundation day at the Alternate Housing Complex Relief Camp, Langol Zone III in Imphal West, during which MCM president Mayanglambam Thoiba appealed for dialogue between the Meitei and Kuki communities and called for restoring peaceful coexistence as in the past.
The celebration was attended by several prominent leaders and representatives of civil society organisations.
Among those present as presidium members were MCM, president Mayanglambam Thoiba, UPF advisor L Jadumani, UCM advisor Kh Ratan, COCOMI convenor YK Dhiren, FOCS acting chairman BM Yaima, Meitei Society Churachandpur president Moirangthem Thoiba, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup president Thangjam Ibemhal, and Nupi Samaj president Ramani.

Representatives of various organisations including UPF, CADA, COPMEV, NIPCO, Macha Leima, Mapi Council, AMKIL, NLANL, NIMPAL, ECHAL, ANUL, AMSU, Apex Committee of Victim Village, Torbung, Churachandpur, Thoubal IMA and Meitei Union, Kangpokpi also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, MCM president Mayanglambam Thoiba stressed the need for immediate resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) .
He questioned why the 40 MLAs from the valley have not been able to unite while the 10 Kuki MLAs have been able to stand together.
He described the silence of the valley MLAs on the plight of the displaced people as unfortunate and called upon them to take collective responsibility in resolving the issue.
Stating that both the Meitei and Kuki communities have suffered immensely in the ongoing conflict, Thoiba said it is time for both communities to reflect and seek a peaceful solution.
He urged both sides to hold talks with mutual understanding and restore harmony.
The MCM president further stated that many displaced people have begun to lose faith in the government's assurances to resettle IDPs in their original homes by March, questioning whether the authorities were waiting for a large-scale protest before taking action.
On the occasion, he also extended his greetings to the people of Manipur on the foundation day of the Meitei Council Moreh.
