Waste into wealth: Collected plastic waste handed over for recycling

Committed to fighting pollution and maintaining a clean environment, the Women Development Committee, Heirok Part II Maning Leikai handed over plastic waste to Ashok Traders, Tentha Marongban, to be recycled and reused, thereby successfully transforming waste into wealth.
The waste materials were collected from numerous social service efforts and cleaning of the Heirok-Wangjing riverbank.
It is worth noting that Eco-Network Heirok launched the Heirok-Wangjing River Rejuvenation Campaign and Heirok clubs, organisations and womenfolk have been keenly involved in the cleanliness cum environment conservation initiative with their participation in door to door garbage collection, cleanliness drives etc, as per a press release issued by Shinthangamba Laishram, president, EcoNetwork Heirok.
Speaking in this connection, Sunita Ningthoujam, secretary, Women Development Committee pointed out that they have been given the opportunity to convert plastic wastes including plastic bottles into cash by exchanging them with traders.
She added that the plastic garbage collected during their drives were properly segregated and handed over to Ashok Traders for recycling.
In their campaign to conserve the environment, Women Development Committee has undertaken several activities including planting of tree saplings, cleanliness drives, spreading awareness about the importance of protecting the environment to the public, door to door garbage collection and so on, she added.
She further sought the cooperation and help of other local clubs and SelfHelp Groups as well as the Government to collectively partake in the effort to convert waste into wealth.
