State Secretary of MPCC, N Lukhoi Singh passes away; Party condoles

Thoubal, November 07 2026: Nongmaithem Lukhoi Singh, State Secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and former president of Thoubal District Congress Committee (TDCC) passed away on November 7 at 9.30 pm at JNIMS following an illness.

To mourn his demise, the Congress party flag is being flown at half mast.

Nongmaithem Lukhoi Singh, a resident of Samaram Makha Leikai in Thoubal district was 83 years old (1943-2026) .

He made significant contributions for strengthening the Congress party, joined the party in 1972 and began his political career as Secretary of the TDCC and went on to serve as the president of the Khangabok Block Congress Committee.

From 2017 until 2026, he served as president of the Thoubal District Congress Committee before serving as MPCC State Secretary.

Following his demise, the Thoubal District Congress Committee organised a condolence programme at the District Congress Bhavan in Thoubal Athokpam, where party leaders and members paid their last respects.

MPCC president Okram Ibobi Singh, CLP Leader Keisham Meghachandra, MLA of Khangabok AC O Surjakumar; former Minister M Hemanta and former MLA O Landhoni, along with several other Congress leaders from Thoubal district, attended the programme.

During the ceremony, the Congress party flag was flown at half-mast, floral tributes were paid to the departed leader, and a two-minute silence was observed in his honour.

Speaking at the condolence programme, CLP Leader Keisam Meghachandra recalled late Lukhoi as a staunch believer in the ideology of the Congress party who had dedicated his political life, from the beginning to his final days, to the service of the party.

MPCC president Okram Ibobi Singh said that Lukhoi was a leader who had unwavering faith in the Congress party's Constitution and had made significant contributions over the past 40-50 years towards strengthening the organisation.

Ibobi described his demise as an irreparable loss to the party.
