State Level Handloom Expo 2025 kicks off at GM Hall

The opening function of the 14-day State Level Handloom Expo 2025 was held on March 30 at Gandhi Memorial (GM) Hall, marking the celebration of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba.
The handloom expo was sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles and is set to conclude on April 12.Speaking as chief guest, Elangbam Jiten, Director, Handloom and Textiles, urged weavers of Manipur to have their finger on the pulse of the public outside the State to identify which products have the highest demand and produce more of these items to meet the demand.
As more items are sold, the prestige of Manipuri weavers will also increase and subsequently lead to an increase in their incomes and overall improvement of the State's economy, said E Jiten.
The Ministry of Handloom and Textiles has approved a total of eight handloom expos to be organised in Manipur.
Out of these, the Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd (MHHDCL) will conduct six expos while the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles will organise the remaining two, said E Jiten.
Stating that there are two lakh weavers in the State as per the census, he encouraged them to participate in handloom expos held in different parts of India.
He urged them to look beyond the local market to broaden their reach.
E Jiten also advised the weavers to take advantage of the benefits provided under the Chief Minister's Yam Scheme.
At the event, many weavers from various districts across the State set up stalls displaying their handloom and handicraft items, including weavers from relief camps in Moirang who were trained by MHHDCL.
Altogether 60 stalls were on display at the opening function of the Hathkargha Mela.
Notably, Priyadarshi Daripa, Deputy Director, Weavers' Service Centre, Porompat; Thongam Gunindro, Financial Advisor, Handloom and Textiles and national awardee Mayanglambam Radhamani graced the inaugural event as the guests of honour.
