National Science Day observed widely

Science popularization programmes, lecture series, model exhibition, quiz and declamation contests marked the National Science Day, 2025 observance functions held in different parts of the State today.
National Science Day is observed every year on February 28 to commemorate the remarkable discovery of the Raman Effect by renowned physicist Sir CV Raman in 1928, which later earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 .
The day serves as a tribute to Indian scientists and researchers and aims to foster a scientific temperament and curiosity among students, youths and the public.
The theme for this year is "Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat" .
It emphasizes the role of young minds in driving India's scientific and technological progress, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which aims for a developed and self-reliant India.
SCIENCE UNIT, EDUCATION (S)
The State Level National Science Day, 2025 was held today at the Palace Auditorium, MSFDS complex, Palace Compound organised by the Science Unit, Department of Education (S), Government of Manipur.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Naorem Prabeen, Secretary, Education (S); Bisheshwar Khumukcham, Additional Director, Education (S/ Valley); Elangbam Sonia, Joint Secretary, Education (S); Dangmei Manglem, Additional Director, Education (S/Hills); G Anita Devi, Additional Director, Education (GC) and Bachaspatimayum Sannatombee, Chief Finance Officer, Education (S) .
As a part of the pro-gramme, a Written Science Quiz (preliminary) was held for the students with All India Radio Imphal, Programme Executive, Heikrujam Devendra Singh as the quiz master.
Prof Ng Nimai Singh, Department of Physics, Manipur University, spoke on the theme of the programme "Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat".
An interaction programme among the students and resource persons/experts was also held.
MASTEC
The five-day long celebration of National Science Day 2025 organised by Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC) concluded today at Takyel, Imphal.
The event was conducted in association with Science Teachers' Forum Manipur (STFM), Manipur Association for the Promotion of Science (MAPS), Manipur Science Communicators' Association (MASCA), Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) and Generation De New Image (GENIM) .
The closing cum prize distribution function was graced by Kengoo Zuringla, Secretary (Science & Technology), Manipur; Chingakham Shachi, Joint Secretary (Science & Technology), Manipur; Dr H Birkumar Singh, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NEIST Branch Laboratory; and Dr Kh Rakesh, Director, MASTEC.
During the five days event 48 students competed in Science & Mathematics Model Exhibition cum Competition, 8 students in Science Short Play Competition, 152 students in Spot Painting Competition, 35 students in Declamation Contest, 11 students in Poster Competition and 55 teams in Science Quiz.
Cash prizes and certificates were presented to the winners of the competitions.
BRIC-IBSD
The BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat, Imphal also commemorated National Science Day 2025 with a vibrant celebration at its Conference Hall today.
As per a release issued by IBSD, the celebration brought together staff, research scholars, and students from IBSD's regional centres in Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, who participated both in-person and virtually.
The institute also welcomed a delegation of teachers and students from Ramakrishna Mission School, Uripok, Imphal, enhancing the community outreach of the event.
Dr H Nanaocha Sharma, Director (Additional Charge) of BRIC-IBSD, opened the ceremony with a welcome address, articulating the institute's mission, goals, and strategic objectives in advancing bioresource research and sustainable development in the region.
Swami Aatmavikasananda of Ramakrishna Mission School emphasized the critical role of science in everyday life and encouraged students to pursue careers in scientific research and innovation.
Prof Nongmaithem Rajmuhon Singh, former Vice Chancellor of DM University, Manipur, delivered an illuminating keynote speech highlighting the historical significance of National Science Day and detailing Sir CV Raman's extraordinary scientific journey.
The celebration featured an interactive Science Quiz that fostered enthusiastic participation among attendees, promoting scientific curiosity and knowledge exchange.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr W Mohendro Singh, Senior Administrative Officer of IBSD, Imphal.
Moreover, National Science Day 2025 was also celebrated today at Shree Shree Gourgobind Girls' College in Khurai Sajor Leikai, Imphal.
The celebration was jointly organised by the Department of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Science, Anthropology and IQAC of the College.
Dr K Jabashakhi Devi, Dr H Anita Devi and Dr H Shashikumari Devi attended the event as the presidium members.
