Accused house dismantled, rally held

Angry villagers today dismantled the house of a teenager, who has been accused of raping and murdering an 11-year-old minor girl at Moirang Khunou, Chandrapur in Bishnupur district at around 8 this morning.
They also held a rally cum public meeting in protest against the shocking incident.
According to information received by The Sangai Express, the accused, who surrendered before Moirang police station at around 2 pm yesterday is a 17-year-old juvenile.
The accused and the deceased belong to the same clan.
It is suspected that the girl was murdered after being raped.
A large number of villagers, students and womenfolk held a public meeting at the ground of the girl's school before they took out a rally from Moirang Khunou to Keibul Lamjao.
Three students were injured in police action as the rallyists tried to storm Moirang police station.
The injured students have been identified as Thoudam Gunamala, Md Zakir Mutaque and Mairembam Deepa.
Later in the public meeting, the villagers resolved not to claim the girl's body until capital punishment is awarded to the accused.
Urging the Government to provide compensation to the family of the victim girl, the villagers also decided to demand the Government to construct a memorial complex in the name of the girl.
The villagers also decided to ostracise the accused from their locality.
On the other hand, the accused was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and kept at the observation home today.
Post mortem examination of the girl's body was conducted at RIMS morgue in the presence of a Duty Magistrate with full video coverage today.
However, the body is still lying at the morgue as nobody has come forward to claim it.
