SBI organises Mega blood donation camp

In connection with the 70th Foundation Day celebration of the State Bank of India (SBI), a Mega Blood Donation Camp was held today at SBI, Regional Business Office Imphal, Babupara on the theme, "Saat Dashak Desh Ke Saath" .
The camp conducted in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, was marked by enthusiastic participation from bank officials, staff, customers and civil society organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, Khumukcham Okendra, Regional Manager of SBI, Regional Office Imphal, said that SBI's Foundation Day is celebrated every year on July 1 to commemorate the bank's official establishment in 1955 when the Imperial Bank of India was nationalized.
"SBI, India's oldest commercial bank, holds a significant place in the country's financial history.
Its roots can be traced back to the early 19th century with the founding of the Bank of Calcutta in 1806.Over the years, through mergers and acquisitions, SBI emerged as a leading nationalized bank", he added.
He mentioned that as part of its 70th Foundation Day celebrations, the SBI has launched a series of public welfare initiatives across the country.
"Among the most prominent welfare initiatives is a mega blood donation drive which aims to collect 70,000 units of blood across India", said Okendra while adding that the SBI North East Region will aim to collect 5,000 units of blood.
Highlighting that the SBI aims to collect 200 units of blood in Manipur, he said that the mega blood donation drive began in Churachandpur where 83 units of blood was collected.
"On June 27, a similar dive was held at Babina Oncology Hospital in Khabeisoi, where staff and customers of SBI from Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel districts visited and donated a total of 23 units of blood", he added.
Ugring all employees and their family members to come forward and contribute to the noble cause, Okendra added, "Donating blood is a lifegiving act and reflects the core values of service and humanity that SBI upholds".
Notably, the mega blood donation camps aim to emphasize the life-saving importance of blood donation, as one unit of donated blood has the potential to save up to three lives.
The large-scale humanitarian effort underscored SBI's enduring commitment to society, reinforcing its legacy of service as it completes 70 years of operation.
