Pherzawl, January 23 2026: The District Administration of Pherzawl, in collaboration with the District Programme Officer (ICDS), organised a training- cum-workshop on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY) for field functionaries and community members at Bukpi village under Thanlon sub-division on Thursday.

The programme also featured an awareness and sensitisation session on menstrual hygiene for adolescent girls, during which sanitary pads and baby care packages were distributed to promote health awareness and safe hygiene practices.

Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching addressing the gathering said the BBBP initiative aims to prevent gender-biased sex selection and ensure the survival, protection and education of the girl child.

As part of the initiative, the district administration also organised a girls' football tournament at the district headquarters to encourage women's participation in sports and foster community engagement.

Meanwhile, a free medical camp-cum-cataract screening programme for senior citizens was conducted at Parbung village by the District Administration in collaboration with the District Health Society under the BBBP initiative.

Several cataract cases among senior citizens were identified and advised for free surgical treatment.

A four-year old child suffering from paediatric cataract was also detected during the screening and referred for free surgical intervention.

Free medicines were distributed to patients with various eye ailments.
