College teachers observe Demand Day

Imphal, July 14 2016: All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) observed the 'Demand Day' at the call of All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisation (AIFUCTO) at Manipur College, Imphal.

The day is being observed by teachers across the coun- try to press for fulfilment of the nine-point charter of de- mands including early announcement of the 7th pay review committee recommen- dations placed by AIFUCTO to the University Grant Com- mission (UGC).

AMCTA being a part of AIFUCTO observed the day to show solidarity to the de- mands of the teachers across the country.

Principals of different col- leges including Modern College- Dr K Biren, CI Col- lege- L Mahendra Singh, Nambol L Sanoi College- Dr LP Baskota; president of AMCTA M Lokendro Singh and vice-president of AMCTA Dr Kh Joychandra Singh attended the function as the presidium members.

M Lokendro highlighted the nine point charter of de- mands and th e demands of AMCTA which were agreed between the State Govt and the apex teachers' associa- tion of Manipur.

The nine point charter of demands are- early and at- tractive report of Pay Review Committee; complete scrap- ing of Academic Performance Index; immedi- ate withdrawal of 3rd amend- ment of Regulations-2010; rolling back of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS); ex- tension of dates of refresher course/ orientation course up to December 2016; UGC pay scales for all categories of teachers, librarians, DPEs, academic and administrative staff; stopping of budget cut and commercialization of higher education; rejection of pension scheme 2004 and pension for all teachers and consultation of teachers' or- ganisation on education policy.

He added that AMCTA on March 17 last year sus- pended the cease work strike after the State Govt gave as- surance to release fresh notification considering local conditions in res pect of re- cruitment, Career Advancement Scheme and other service matters.

The as- surance also included immediate release of pending due allowances ie SCA, TA etc entitled to college teachers and equivalent cadres by making correction of the revi- sion of pay order dated August 12, 2011 as top prior- ity.

Unfortunately till today the State Govt has failed to fulfil its promises, he added.

Fur- ther he said that AMCTA will send a memorandum placing their demands to the Chair- man of University Grant Commission (UGC).

Another memorandum will be sent to the Chief Minister of Manipur and Education Minister as a wakeup call, Lokendro said.
