Imphal, September 08 2026: A 42-year-old Manipur Rifles Havaldar allegedly died by suicide at his family quarter inside the Imphal West Commando complex yesterday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Leichongbam Romesh, son of (L) Chaoba of Churachandpur, and was presently attached to Imphal West commando.

According to sources, Romesh allegedly shot himself with his service weapon.

Following an inquest at the site, his body was kept at the RIMS morgue for post-mortem examination.

The family members claimed the body this afternoon after the post-mortem for the last rites.

The post-mortem examination was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, with the entire proceedings videographed.
