The Khongdei (Dumai/ Khudaime) Union has appealed to the Governor of Manipur to intervene and expedite the completion of the Senapati to Phaibung Road (SP Road) construction in the larger interest of public welfare and regional development.
In a letter from the Union addressed to the Governor, it stated that the said road project was sanctioned under a special developmental package by the Prime Minister of India vide No 11/2/2001-NFSC (Vol-11), dated 01 November 2001, with the noble aim of enhancing connectivity in the most backward and remote areas between Senapati and Ukhrul districts.
The project, funded in the ratio of 90% by the Central Government and 10% by the State Government, was entrusted to the 25 BRTF as the executing agency.
Urging the authorities concerned to allow Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) to complete the remaining portion of the road without transferring the project to the State Public Works Department (PWD) or any other contractors.
The BRTF's continuity in the work was stated to be vital to ensuring efficiency and quality, said the Union.
The Union strongly urged that no politician, Government official, or individual should interfere with or obstruct the ongoing road development for personal or political gain, adding such interference could hamper progress and adversely affect the wellbeing of the entire community.
The Union also expressed their sincere appreciation to the SP Road Development Committee for their relentless efforts and unwavering commitment towards the successful completion of this vital project.
Their dedication and public spirit are deeply commendable, the Union mentioned.
