International Day of Older Persons observed

Joining the rest of the world, Manipur Human Rights Commission (MGRC) observed International Day of Older Persons-2025 at the multipurpose hall of Maharaj Bodhchandra College, Palace Compound, Imphal today.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Kangjam Khagendra Singh, Acting Chairperson, MHRC; Haobam Rosita, Secretary, MHRC; Maj (Dr) Bhabananda Singh T, Principal, Maharaja Bodhchandra College; and Waikhom Tamapati Devi, District Social Welfare Officer, Imphal East.
Speaking on the occasion, Kangjam Khagendra said that the younger generation should care for and support the older generation as it fosters mutual respect, strengthens familial and community bonds, and ensures the well-being of a vulnerable population.
Highlighting the importance of various Social Welfare Schemes, Health Card and Ration Cards for senior citizens, he encouraged all especially family members to inform, guide, and assist senior citizens in accessing their benefits.
As part of the event, a State Level Painting Competition for Class VI to VIII students was conducted on the theme, "Care and Support of Elderly Persons-Our Responsibility" .
Over 200 students from across the State participated in the competition.
Nongmaithem Korounganba of Heritage Convent, Khoirom Henthoiba Mangang of Heritage Convent and Linthoi Ningthoujam of Modem Hr Sec School won the 1 st, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively in the competitions.
Winners of consolation prize are - Leepun Ningthemcha of Maria Montessori School, Sanahen Oinam of Pitambara English School, Seram Arithoi of Shishu Nistha Niketan, Naina Khoisnam of UNACCO School, Ningthoujam Yaiphabi of MI Academy and Dolcee Laitonjam of Pitambara English School.
The event concluded with the felicitation of older persons and distribution of prizes to the winners of the painting competition.
UVYC
The United Voluntary Youth Council (UVYC) Langthabal and District Social Welfare Officer, Kamjong District, jointly celebrated the International Day of Older Persons at Senior Citizen's Home, Ramrei village today with the theme, "Older Persons Driving Local and Global Actions: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights".
Notably, the Senior Citizen's Home located at Ramrei village is run by UVYC.
The celebration was attended by Rev Rinchui Jajo, Pastor, Ramrei Baptist Church; Chinaochung Makan, president, Ramrei Katamnao Long; Wonthing Seipainao, president, Ramrei Shanao Long and Joseph Phungthar, Village Authority, Ramrei Village along with 32 senior citizens of the village.
Speaking on the occasion, Wonthing Seipainao said, "It is with the presence of older citizens, the local community is warm and lively.
Their contributions to the community and society should be acknowledged" .
He also encouraged the younger generations and NGOs to arrange facilities like health care and other social securities for older persons so that they can continue to give positive influence to the society.
HFAO
Health For All Organisation (HFAO) celebrated the International Day of Older Persons, 2025 at Yaipha Shanglen Community Hall in Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi Ningthoujam Leikai today on the theme, "Our Aspiration, Our Well-Being, Our Rights" .
The celebration was graced by Victoria Yengkhom, IPS officer; Premkumar Heigrujam, chief functionary, HFAO; Dr Wakambam Joyson, Deputy Director (Prevention), MSACS; Dr Soraisam Joychandra Singh, retired Director, Directorate of Forensic Science, Manipur; Lairenjam Gojendra Singh, Assistant Professor, Economics Department, Manipur College; renowned playwright Ranjit Ningthouja and film actor Ningthoujam Jaividya as presidium members.
Presentation of gifts to older persons, distribution of Old Age Pension, and recreational programmes by celebrated artists Joseph and Rangilal were the main highlights of the event.
AMCSWA
All Manipur Senior Citizens' Welfare Association (AMCSWA) observed the International Day of Older Persons, 2025 at the hall of Old Age Home, Mongshangei today.
The observance was graced by dignitaries, including Dr N Sushila Devi, retired Medical Officer, Community Health Centre, Wangoi; S Kunjabihari Singh, president, AMSCWA; S Ibempishak Devi, donor cum patron member, AMSCWA; and Alhaj Hafizuddin Khan, father of Vir Chakra awardee Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik.
As part of the event, simple gifts were presented to the residents of the Old Age Home as a gesture of support and encouragement.
