Imphal, April 22 2024:
In a suspected poll related violence, unknown miscreants opened fire at the residence of a Muslim family at Kyamgei Takhok Mapan yesterday at around 6.15 pm.
Denouncing the attack, a sit in protest was staged at the locality today.
It is reported that two bullets of an AK Rifle hit the house of Md Leihaluddin (50), of which one pierced through the tin wall of the house and fell inside.
At the demonstration, the protesters displayed placards with inscription "We condemn firing at residential area", "We condemn intimidation against children and women", "Firing in public places is an act of cowardice" and "Gun culture won't bring development" among others.
One of the protesters said that Md Leihaluddin is a simple Government employee and he hasn't done anything illegal or against the State.
He claimed that Leihaluddin doesn't have affiliation with any political party.
Saying that some of the family members of Leihaluddin work for BJP, the protester said that people can support any political party or candidate in an election in a democratic Nation.
Condemning the attack, he appealed to all to end the gun culture and urged the Government to book all the perpetrators involved in the incident.
He also appealed to the group or individuals concerned to clarify the motive behind the attack.
