Imphal, April 22 2024:
Over 200 police personnel on Monday staged a protest in front of GP College, here, protesting against the order issued by Manipur Police Department for sending them on election duty in Tamenglong district for the second phase of election to the 18th Lok Sabha in respect of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, slated on April 26 .
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, one of the police personnel informed that of the 260 personnel ordered for election duty at different polling stations in Tamenglong district as per the order notified by DIG Kabib, 179 belong to the Meetei community.
As such, he urged for deployment in other locations except for Tamenglong in view of the prevailing conflict situation in the state.
While the police personnel have been performing their duty during the election for the Inner Manipur PC, the authority must make the reason for sudden deployment to Tamenglong district clear to the public.
The conflict has claimed the lives of many police personnel and the deployment would likely increase the figure of casualty.
Thus, the protesting personnel urged for revoking the order and instead deploying them at safer and suitable locations.
