Two-day ToT on Transgender Rights Act begins in Wangjing

A two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on "Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 & Rule 2020" commenced on Friday at Kshetri Shanglen, Thoubal.
The training is being organised by New Life Sanglen, Garima Greh Shelter Home for Transgender, Wangjing Bazar, runned by the Rural Voluntary Services (RVS).
The inaugural session was attended by District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Thoubal, K Nongpoknganba Salaicha and RVS secretary Babita Sapam as presidium members.
The training programme has been structured into two sessions.
In the first session, HRLN Director Rakesh Meihoubam delivered a detailed presentation on the "Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 & Rule, 2020 and their Constitutional Provisions", while Jen Yengkhom, member of Empowering Trans Ability (ETA), Manipur, spoke on "Transgender Empowerment - Issues & Initiatives on Health, Education, Employment and Livelihood" as resource persons.
Delivering the keynote address, RVS secretary Babita Sapam stated that the programme aims to create awareness among youth in schools, colleges and universities regarding the provisions of the Act and its implementation.
She further highlighted that the initiative seeks to address and help and mitigate challenges faced by the transgender community.
A total of 30 trainees, including participants from schools, colleges, police personnel and the transgender community, are taking part in the training programme.
