Imphal, January 23 2026: A sit-in protest was held today at Nongpok Panthoibi Sanglen in Kakwa Naorem Leikai against the alleged assault of Laishram Romen along Thangapat Road.

The demonstration, organised by Kakwa Naorem Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi and Romen's family, demanded justice for the victim.

Speaking to the media, Romen's sister, Laishram Robita, alleged that her brother was assaulted by unidentified miscreants on January 18 while returning from his aunt's place.

She explained that Romen drove outside the cement concrete road because he saw other vehicles doing the same.

She said that Romen stopped his vehicle upon noticing some bamboo along the route and attempted to clear it.

"He was struck on the head by a heavy object and is still receiving treatment in an ICU", she said.

She also mentioned that the miscreants continued the assault even after his wife and son pleaded for them to stop.

Robita further appealed to the authorities to arrest the culprits and award befitting punishment.
