Condemnations pour in over alleged sexual assault, accused arrested

Condemnations from different district civil society organisations have poured in over an alleged attempt to rape and sexual assault incident of a college student which happened on May 17 at Maram.
According to police, the accused identified as one Kangba Moses of Maram Khullen village absconded after the incident.
However, after intervention from Maram CSOs, District CSOs and Senapati District Police, he was traced and arrested during the wee hours on Sunday.
A police FIR has been registered against him for attempt to rape and sexual assault.
Condemning the heinous act, the Maram Students' Union (MKS) termed the act not only a gross violation of human rights but also a disgrace to the community's values and respect for women.
Standing in solidarity with the victim and her family, MKS added that such despicable actions have no place in the society.
The office of the Poumai Naga Students Union (PNTM) also condemned the heinous crime committed against a student of Don Bosco College, Maram in the highest term.
While the incident took place a few meters away from the college premises, a place that should be a sanctuary for learning and growth, the student body termed it as egregious violation which not only shattered the sense of safety and security of the victim but also sent ripples of fear throughout the student community.
Students who come from diverse communities to pursue education, deserve utmost respect and protection under all circumstances, the release said.
Meanwhile, the Mao Students Union (MSU) has appealed every right thinking individual and society to abhor such satanic acts and urged the law enforcing agency to leave no stone unturned in booking the culprit and award the stringent exemplary punishment.
Demanding appropriate action against the culprit at the earliest, the Maram Ramlung Students and Youth Organization expressed shock and condemnation over the incident.
The Management, Staff and Students of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram also vehemently condemned the act of molestation of one of their students at her rented home on May 17 around 7:30 pm by a middle-aged man, Kangba Moses.
The release urged the concerned lawful authorities to take befitting action against the culprit at the earliest and bring justice to the victim.
Senapati District Women Association asserted that the life, the dignity, freedom and security of every student in and around Senapati is under threat until the culprit is booked and befitting punishment be given.
Similar condemnations have been voiced by the Mao Youth & Students Organization (MYSO), Makhan Union, Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), Mao Students' Union, Senapati (MSUS), Maram Women Union, Poumai Naotumai Me (PNM), Senapati District Catholic Union (SDCU) and the Naga People's Organization (NPO) .
