Imphal, September 08 2026:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has alleged irregularities in the renewal of ration cards in Bishnupur district.
In a press note, the Union claimed to have evidence that authorities were charging beneficiaries more than the approved rate of Rs 50 for the renewal of ration cards.
It also claimed that the DSO, Bishnupur, had admitted that staff were charging between Rs 100 and Rs 400 for the renewal of ration cards.
According to AMSU, the DSO explained that the additional amount was being collected to meet expenses for procuring paper and ink, printing documents and paying electricity bills, while the office did not even have the facility to make the ration cards.
Further claiming that the authorities are even collecting fees from internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bishnupur for the renewal of ration cards, AMSU called on the authorities concerned to take action against the officers involved.
