Thoubal, November 07 2025:
Aggrieved over the alleged poor functioning of the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Yairipok, Thoubal district, several local bodies of the area have locked the main gate of the Centre demanding immediate action.
The protestors have called for the replacement of the Medical Officer in-charge and a supervisor accused of malpractice in issuing birth certificates.
They also demanded that a gynaecologist be deputed for night shifts.
Speaking on the issue, Nongpok Sayang Apunba Lup (NSAL) president, Ananda Laishram, stated that from today onwards, the members of NSAL, along with Arambai Unit-II and Meira Paibis of the area, have locked the CHC gate due to the continued negligence in its functioning.
He alleged that doctors at the CHC frequently fail to report for duty and that specialist doctors visit the Centre only once a week, leaving patients without proper medical attention.
He further claimed that the decision to lock the CHC gate stemmed from the authorities' failure to replace the current Medical Officer in-charge and the supervisor, Nahakpam Tomba, who allegedly charged extra fees for issuing birth certificates.
Ananda added that the organizations have also submitted a written memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Thoubal and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) demanding immediate intervention.
He warned that the agitation would continue and the CHC gate would remain locked until the demands of the people are fulfilled.
