Immortalising courage: Bust of Sepoy K Ashuli unveiled at Makhan

Imphal, September 30 2025: The Indian Army today paid a solemn tribute to one of Manipur's bravest sons, Sepoy K Ashuli, Vir Chakra (Posthumous), by unveiling his bust at his native village Makhan village.

The ceremony, held with full military honours, was attended by senior Army officers, representatives of his unit, and local villagers, who gathered to commemorate the soldier's supreme sacrifice during the Kargil conflict.

Sepoy K Ashuli was bom on March 1, 1976 at Makhan village.

He joined the 1 Naga Regiment of the Indian Army in 1992, dedicating his life to the service of the nation.

During Operation Vijay in 1999, he was tasked with capturing the heavily fortified enemy position "Black Tooth" in the Drass sector, a mission fraught with treacherous terrain and relentless enemy fire.

Volunteering for the perilous task, Sepoy Ashuli displayed extraordinary courage and determination.

Braving heavy fire, he scaled the sheer cliffs, engaged the enemy at close quarters, and cleared the way for his comrades to secure the objective.

Gravely wounded in the process, he laid down his life on July 23, 1999, upholding the finest traditions of the Indian Army.

For his exceptional bravery, Sepoy Ashuli was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra, becoming the first soldier from Manipur to receive this distinguished wartime gallantry honour.

The bust unveiled in his native village now stands as a lasting symbol of courage, selfless devotion, and indomitable spirit.

The fallen hero's sacrifice continues to inspire the youth of the region to serve the nation with pride, dedication, and honour.
