Programme on tuberculosis elimination held at Senapati

Senapati, July 30 2025:
A Dissemination Meeting of the Project titled "an innovative approach for engaging student and women organizations to improve Tuberculosis case finding and treatment adherence: A step towards Tuberculosis elimination in Senapati District, Manipur" under the theme Community Involvement as a Catalyst for Tuberculosis Elimination was held today at DRDA Hall, Senapati.
The programme was graced by the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati Mamoni Doley as the chief guest in the presence of Rang David Kung, ADM Senapati, Dr Sanjay Kumar Matteo, Joint Commissioner & Additional Deputy Director General Central TB Division, NTEP, MoHFW, GoI, New Delhi, Dr Harpreet Kaur, Scientist 'G' Division of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases, ICMR, DHR, MoHFW, GoI, New Delhi and Dr Collins Zekotso Sono, GoI-WHO Consultant (Manipur & Nagaland).
Speaking at the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley on behalf of Sumant Singh, Secretary Health and Family Welfare, GoM extended best wishes to all participants and emphasized the need for continued community involvement in TB elimination efforts.
She praised the work of the District TB team and volunteers, noting a paradigm shift from departmental focus to community-driven action.
Following the number of TB cases in the district, she emphasized the importance of volunteers training and developing practicality from ground level.
She also urged the teams and volunteers to continue endorsing the work in making TB-Mukt Senapati, free from tuberculosis.
During the meeting, Dr N Karikalan apprised the gathering on project summary of innovative approach for engaging student and women organization to improve case finding and treatment adherence towards TB elimination in Senapati district, Manipur during the period from 2023-25.The study collaborators for Senapati consists of National TB Elimination Programme Manipur, National Health Mission Senapati, Senapati District Students Association, Senapati District Women Association, Regional Institute of Medical Science, Imphal, The Directorate of Health Services, Manipur, Central TB Division, New Delhi and ICMR-NIRT, Chennai.
Dr Harpreet Kaur applauded the dedicated teams and community volunteers of both district and state for their commitment on TB case finding.
She also highlighted various plans and targets of the country on eliminating TB despite the geographical and social issues of the North-Eastern region including Senapati.
As part of the programme, certificates of citation for commendable work on TB elimination were distributed to SDWA, SDSA, Community volunteers.
